I have quite a few projects that I have been working on over the past month or so. Busy B is my name. But none of these projects were worthy of a blog post of their own….so here they are, all gathered in one spot. Just look at the pretty pictures!
One of the first things that I worked on was a tube quilt. Naturally, I learned this technique by watching a Missouri Star Quilt YouTube video. You can watch it here. It was a fun block and quilt to do and I am happy with how the top turned out. I still have to finish the sashing and quilting. Stay tuned for a view of the finished project.
Next I had the opportunity to sew up a few articles of clothing. Not my forte, but I did give it a shot. My dear sis was having some minor surgery and I spent about 10 days with her to give her a helping hand as she recovered. I thought that she might feel better having some nice jammies to hang around the house in while she healed. She picked the nice flannels and I already had the ribbon on hand. I don’t think that I did too bad and she looked damn cute in her new bloomers and pj’s!
The true color is more like the second photo…a nice soft pink. Sometimes the camera just doesn’t play nice!
I would love to make myself a pair of these but the dog ate the pattern. Really.
Next I decided that I wanted to try my hand at making a small art quilt. I used a white on white print cotton fabric and did a bit of fabric painting with Jacquard fabric paints. Then I printed out some words and a free use image on some fabric paper that I ran through my inkjet printer. Using two layers of batting I attached the image to the quilt by sewing around the perimeter. I embellished with rubber stamps, couched threads, thread painting and watercolor crayons. I finished it off by heat setting the entire creation.
Something snarky, just like me!
I was lucky enough to visit with my mom in late January and also go to an awesome quilt store. My mom wasn’t thrilled by the store until we found a great panel that I suggested making placemats out of. She brightened right up and said she would love that. I hate to say, but I don’t have them done….yet! But I am working on them and will have them completed soon. I do already have the napkins made and four of the eight mats quilted. Slow and steady wins the race.
Sandwiched together and ready for quilting.
Quilted and trimmed. On to the part I hate. Binding. I will show you these when I have everything done. I think mom will be happy.
Finally, the mister is BIG TIME involved in radio control airplanes and somehow he has managed to utilize my sewing skills to augment his hobby.
He recently built a plane and to make transporting it easier, he prefers to remove the wings. He asked me if I would make a bag for him to carry the wings that would be light, look good and provide protection. Here is what I came up with:
The carry handle is on top. The three velcro straps open to hold wing support rods on the inside. The end with the emblem opens to reveal the pocket where the wing slides into. The mister’s initials are embroidered on the flap on the opposite side.
Another view of the bag where you can see that there is a divided pocket for each wing.
I fancied up this plain gray bag with some wonderful embroidery from Urban Threads. They have really great machine and hand embroidery designs that stitch up beautifully.
One of the mister’s friends has a delta wing plane and he requested that I make a carrying bag for it. Actually he needed something to suspend it from pegboard and off of the floor of his trailer. Yes, his enclosed trailer. Just for RC airplanes.
He brought me the plane and after a bit of thinking and sleeping on it, I came up with a plan. I am totally happy with how it turned out and so was he.
The straps close with hook and loop tape allowing the plane to just slide into the “sling”. Grommets on the ends of the straps allow for it to be hung from hooks, keeping the plane safe and undamaged and off of the floor.
Pretty kewl, huh?
This is what I have been up to lately and why I keep saying I am a busy B. I hope you have enjoyed this microburst of creativity!
